LB - Football
WHAT HAS THIS WOMAN OR GIRL DONE TO INSPIRE YOU?
LB - Kathrine inspires me because when she decided she wanted to play football there was no stopping her. Many people tried to discourage her and tell her that football was for boys, but with her parents made the commitment to join a team in Moosomin, which is almost an hour away from their home. KT puts her heart into playing, rain or shine, through injuries and rehab. When KT had shoulder surgery, she still went out to cheer on her teammates and helped to coach younger players. KT began practicing with the Regina Riots this season, COVID-19 has put football on hold for KT but she’s not done... she loves football and will be at practice as soon as it’s allowed.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE KATHRINE PETIT IN ONE SENTENCE?
LB - Kathrine is loyal and tenacious, don’t tell her she can’t do something, because she will prove you wrong.
WHAT HAS KATHRINE PETIT TAUGHT YOU ABOUT SPORTS, WORK ETHIC, PASSION, OR LIFE IN GENERAL?
LB - She taught me to that if you want to be part of something, then make it happen, do it for you!
WHAT IS YOUR TAKE ON LEVELING THE PLAYING FIELD FOR WOMEN IN SPORTS? WHAT CURRENTLY GIVES YOU HOPE, AND WHAT CHANGES DO YOU THINK STILL NEEDS TO BE IMPLEMENTED?
LB - Women face barriers in many aspects of life and many leaps have been made over the years. I think women leading by example and being positive role models, will only lead to good things.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT FOR OTHERS TO GET INVOLVED, BE INFORMED AND/OR START SUPPORTING WOMEN IN SPORTS?
LB - With sports, everyone learns important life skills like teamwork, goal setting and leadership. The skills and confidence gained in sport influences their competitive edge and their professional successes.
