SheIS Partners with Sports Reference to Put a Fan at the Women’s World Cup for “Through the Eyes of a Fan” Campaign

New sponsorship will provide funding, promotional resources, and data from FBref.com, Sports Reference's newest collection of data for world football including the Women's World Cup

NEW YORK, NY June 6, 2019 – SheIS announced today that Sports Reference will sponsor it’s latest campaign, Through the Eyes of a Fan: Calli Goes to France, which will see a fan explore and share her experiences on the ground at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup from June 7 - July 7.

The campaign will serve as the final major pulse point in the larger campaign, the #SheISChallenge, that SheIS launched in January. The Challenge, which has reached more than 265M people since its launch, is a call to action to sports fans to show their support for women’s sports by watching and attending games.

The fan is Toronto-native, Calli Mingopoulos. In addition to being an avid fan of women’s soccer and hockey, Mingopoulos plays soccer and volleyball. She graduated from the University of Waterloo with a BA in Architecture and currently works for an architecture firm in Toronto.

“The Challenge has asked fans to watch and attend women’s sports, so what better way to highlight that message in action than through the eyes of a fan?” said SheIS Co-founder and CMO, Caiti Donovan. “We are thrilled to partner with Sports Reference to deepen Calli’s experience in France with a data-driven storytelling approach.”

The campaign will include a series of video and photo content, collected by Calli as she attends a number of Women’s World Cup games, watches games from Fan Zones around France, and generally captures everything she’s witnessing during one of the largest women’s sporting events of the year. Some of the content includes:

  • Live video from the Opener on June 7: France vs South Korea

  • Photos/videos from Fan Zones around France

  • Photos/videos from the game on June 15 - Canada v New Zealand in Grenoble

  • Photos/videos from the game: June 20 - Canada v Netherlands in Reims

  • Live video from the Quarter Finals, both Semi-Final games (July 2-3 in Lyon), and the Final on July 7 in Lyon

Fans can follow Calli’s adventure on the SheIS social accounts (@teamsheis on Twitter and Instagram) and can keep up with all the action, athletes, and storylines of the 2019 World Cup by signing up for the Stathead Women's World Cup Newsletter on FBref.com. Chris Mosier and TransAthlete.com Join SheIS

to Create Educational Resources Around Trans Inclusion in Athletics at Various Levels of Play

New collaboration will provide resources to the SheIS Collective and the general public in an effort to bring greater transparency to challenges and opportunities facing trans athletes

NEW YORK, NY May 22, 2019 – SheIS announced today that Chris Mosier and TransAthlete.com will join the SheIS Collective to help educate and advise on transgender inclusion in athletics at all levels of play.

The announcement comes after a series of recent rulings and legislative action - from the confusion around how the Caster Semenya ruling will impact transgender athletes to the news of the US House of Representatives passing the Equality Act - all of which have a direct impact on how people view and discuss women’s sports, and especially the inclusion of trans athletes in sport.

“We want to make sure that anything we put out into the world comes from a basis of educated understanding on the matters at hand,” said SheIS Executive Director, Jillian Svensson. “And we want for our Collective, should they need it, to have access to that information as well.”

The new collaboration will see Chris Mosier, an American trans athlete advocate, triathlete and current Team USA men’s duathlon competitor, providing guidance on trans athletes to be included in SheIS content development and ambassadorship, creating a guide which encompasses the basics of trans inclusion in sport, providing policy recommendations, and providing support for the SheIS Collective if/when issues arise regarding the LGBTQ community, with an emphasis on the trans community.

Work will also begin on the creation of a website landing page on SheISsport.com with basic information around transgender athletes and a link to full resources on Transathlete.com. Finally, Mosier and SheIS will work together to create social content and storytelling around trans athletes to increase the visibility and understanding of the trans community within the sports world.

“I am excited to work with SheIS to develop a deeper understanding of some of the unique challenges and opportunities that exist for the trans community in sports,” said Mosier. “By creating more education and resources around this topic, it is my hope that we can continue to have productive, positive, and proactive conversations across the sports community.”

SheIS Celebrates International Women’s Day with New Partnerships and a Refresh of the SheIS Challenge

Canadian Football League and Warner Music recording artist Rita Ora included in the new collaborations which will help to drive attendance and viewership of women’s sports

NEW YORK, NY March 8, 2019 – In recognition of International Women’s Day, SheIS announced this week three new partnerships with the Lyda Hill Philanthropies, the Lawrence Family Foundation, and the Canadian Football League (CFL), as well as a new collaborative effort with Warner Music artist Rita Ora as a part of the SheIS Challenge.

The partnerships with Lyda Hill Philanthropies and the Lawrence Family Foundation were announced earlier in the week. The partnership with the CFL was announced today and represents the first male-only league to formally join the SheIS Collective. To-date the SheIS Collective has been comprised of women’s professional leagues and coed organizations, including the WNBA, WWE, National Pro Fastpitch, and the USTA. With this latest addition, SheIS further demonstrates its commitment to an inclusive approach to unifying the sports world around elevating women’s sports.

Christina Litz, the CFL’s Chief Marketing, Digital and Strategy Officer, said of the new partnership, “We want to see more girls and women get involved in the game and in sports in general. The CFL is proud to support leaders in the field of women’s sports, and we’re excited to work alongside SheIS to push for greater gender equality in sports.”

Additionally, today marked the launch of a new collaboration with WMG artist Rita Ora. Ora’s song “Soul Survivor” is included in a refreshed version of the SheIS Challenge video, relaunched today on the SheIS social channels and website.

This collaboration is the first cross-industry collaboration from SheIS with the music industry, but SheIS Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer, Caiti Donovan, confirmed it was only a start:

“We have long known that the fan mentality extends across both sports and music, and often intertwines. We see this in everything from artists who used to be athletes, to in-stadium entertainment like halftime shows, to lifestyle behaviors of shared fan bases. We are thrilled for the opportunity to work with Warner Music Group and Rita Ora to help drive further awareness of our efforts to engage that fanbase in a meaningful and impactful way, and we know that it is only the beginning in our efforts to unite our industries in our support of women’s empowerment through sports.”

Ora is no stranger to collaborations in the sports world. Last year, she lent her voice to a campaign with UEFA to help promote women’s soccer in Europe, and her sporting apparel line from 2015 continues to draw eyes on the Adidas website.

More information about each of the partnerships, including the development of new interactive content and experiential events, will be released in the coming weeks and months. Follow SheIS on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook for up-to-date information.

CFL Partners with SheIS to Support Women in Sport on International Women’s Day

CFL becomes first male professional sports league to partner with SheIS

TORONTO (March 8, 2019) — On International Women’s Day, the Canadian Football League (CFL) is partnering with SheIS to recognize and celebrate the many girls and women players, fans, employees, media personnel and others who love and work in football.

The CFL and SheIS are engaging sports fans and inviting them to share stories about the influential women in their lives on social media. They are also inviting fans to take the SheIS Challenge. For every person who does so, $1 will go towards keeping young girls in sport through SheIS partner organizations like Fast & Female and Play Like A Girl.

Some members of the CFL community will be sharing the message of ‘Hustle Together’ to discuss people making a difference, standing together as allies and taking leadership roles not just in the CFL, but in women’s sports and sports communities.

This marks the first partnership between SheIS and a male professional sports league. SheIS will provide support to the CFL and encourage girls to sign up to play football. The CFL and SheIS are committed to encouraging participation, viewership and attendance of women’s teams, leagues and sporting events.

“Women are already doing the work – we see them in jerseys, in boardrooms and in the stands across Canada and the CFL, and we’re thrilled to shine a light on their amazing contributions and achievements,” said Christina Litz, the CFL’s Chief Marketing, Digital and Strategy Officer. “We want to see more girls and women get involved in the game and in sports in general. The CFL is proud to support leaders in the field of women’s sports, and we’re excited to work alongside SheIS to push for greater gender equality in sports.”

SheIS Executive Director Jillian Svensson added, “We are thrilled to be bringing the CFL into our SheIS Collective. This partnership exemplifies one of our core values of Inclusivity and we firmly believe that when men, women and allies stand together, we can make great things happen for women in sports.”

Later in March, the CFL is partnering with Brock University and the Ontario Football Alliance to hold their first-ever women’s combine, as well as a safe contact clinic for women. This is part of a larger strategy that will include future events to lend resources and support to women’s football teams, players, and organizations and encourage participation in football at all levels.

Earlier this year, the CFL and U SPORTS sent four Canadian women to the NFL’s Women’s Careers in Football Forum in Indianapolis. The forum, which focused on the future of football, brought together women directly involved in the game of football and football operations from the NCAA and U SPORTS to network and share knowledge and resources.

SheIS Joins IF/THEN Initiative to Promote Women in STEM and Sports

Science & Cultural Organizations Unite to Empower Female STEM Innovators & Next Generation of Pioneers

Untitled presentation.jpg

NEW YORK, NY March 5, 2019 – SheIS announced today that it will partner with IF/THEN, an initiative of Lyda Hill Philanthropies supporting women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). IF/THEN, built on the mantra that “if we support a woman in STEM, then she can change the world,” seeks to advance women in STEM by empowering current innovators and inspiring the next generation of female pioneers.

This first-of-its-kind coalition emphasizes that STEM is everywhere, essential to the success of all fields from entertainment to business, and that there is no better time to highlight positive and successful female professional role models to activate a culture shift among young girls and their potential of careers in STEM.

The new multi-year partnership between SheIS and IF/THEN will highlight the intersection of STEM and sports through the development of interactive content and experiential opportunities. The work will feature a number of athletes and business leaders in the sports world who either work directly in STEM careers or who otherwise understand the necessity of STEM in sport. It will also see an expansion of the work with current SheIS partner, Play Like a Girl, with the development of sports hackathons aimed at engaging young girls and women in STEM as it relates to sports.

SheIS Executive Director, Jillian Svensson, said, “We are excited for this new partnership and to expand the visibility for the important work that happens all across the sports world, but which does not always get the recognition it deserves. STEM careers are a critical part of this world, and just as we need more girls playing sports, we also need them to understand all of the career options that exist for them in the sports world. This partnership will help us to achieve that.”

Though women constitute about half of the college-educated workforce in the United States, just a quarter of STEM professionals are female, and a lack of funding and visibility has caused female STEM professionals to receive significantly less credit for their work. This STEM gender gap has impacted perceptions of women in STEM, and trickles down to younger generations.

“We need more women scientists to put their stories out there so girls can see what they can be when they grow up,” said Nicole Small, president of Lyda Hill Philanthropies and co-founder of IF/THEN. “To ensure that current female STEM innovators are supported, and girls are exposed to the STEM role models they need, we must join forces toward this common goal. We believe that having diverse perspectives at the table is key to building a more innovative future, and if we work together, we can truly shift the culture to inspire the next generation of female world-changers. That is why we are partnering with SheIS.”

SheIS Co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer, Caiti Donovan added, “Just as we have brought together leagues and organizations, this new partnership is a first step in uniting industries, all in support of using sport to create a future of, by, and for strong women. The interactive content we will development as a part of this partnership will be the first of its kind, and we are excited to use the power of storytelling to introduce young girls to more role models and get them excited about the future that they can have when STEM meets sports.”
