to Create Educational Resources Around Trans Inclusion in Athletics at Various Levels of Play
New collaboration will provide resources to the SheIS Collective and the general public in an effort to bring greater transparency to challenges and opportunities facing trans athletes
NEW YORK, NY May 22, 2019 – SheIS announced today that Chris Mosier and TransAthlete.com will join the SheIS Collective to help educate and advise on transgender inclusion in athletics at all levels of play.
The announcement comes after a series of recent rulings and legislative action - from the confusion around how the Caster Semenya ruling will impact transgender athletes to the news of the US House of Representatives passing the Equality Act - all of which have a direct impact on how people view and discuss women’s sports, and especially the inclusion of trans athletes in sport.
“We want to make sure that anything we put out into the world comes from a basis of educated understanding on the matters at hand,” said SheIS Executive Director, Jillian Svensson. “And we want for our Collective, should they need it, to have access to that information as well.”
The new collaboration will see Chris Mosier, an American trans athlete advocate, triathlete and current Team USA men’s duathlon competitor, providing guidance on trans athletes to be included in SheIS content development and ambassadorship, creating a guide which encompasses the basics of trans inclusion in sport, providing policy recommendations, and providing support for the SheIS Collective if/when issues arise regarding the LGBTQ community, with an emphasis on the trans community.
Work will also begin on the creation of a website landing page on SheISsport.com with basic information around transgender athletes and a link to full resources on Transathlete.com. Finally, Mosier and SheIS will work together to create social content and storytelling around trans athletes to increase the visibility and understanding of the trans community within the sports world.
“I am excited to work with SheIS to develop a deeper understanding of some of the unique challenges and opportunities that exist for the trans community in sports,” said Mosier. “By creating more education and resources around this topic, it is my hope that we can continue to have productive, positive, and proactive conversations across the sports community.”
