Addition of football body joins SheIS Collective to support unity and the positive power of women in football.
New York, NY ( January 11, 2021) || SheIS announced today that the Women’s Football Alliance will join its SheIS Collective of sports organizations. The joint venture will help continue to raise awareness for women in football and overall strengthen the SheIS Collective partnerships.
SheIS, which launched to the public in May 2018, made history by becoming the first organization to bring together leagues, organizations, athletes, and business leaders from across the men’s and women’s sports world in support of one mission - to connect with and mobilize fans to grow women’s sports. The SheIS Collective includes organizations such as the Women’s National Basketball Association, WWE, US Tennis Association, Canadian Football League, National Women’s Soccer League, Ladies Professional Golf Association, and the United States Golf Association as well as more than 150 athletes and business leaders.
SheIS Founder and President, Brenda Andress said, “We are very excited and looking forward to our new partnership with the WFA. This addition will deepen our efforts in football to improve women’s representation at all levels.” The partnerships with the WFA will focus on digital marketing and experiential efforts, including activity around player camps and games.
The WFA is a full-contact women's American football league. Established in 2009, the WFA is the largest and most competitive Women's Football League in the world. Headquartered in California, the WFA is dedicated to promoting and developing women’s tackle football with the vision for all female athletes to have access to playing football in high school, college, and on a professional level.
WFA Commissioner, Lisa King said, "We are excited to join the SheIs Collective and its united front of female athletes and organizations dedicated to the success of women's sports. While women’s tackle football is still developing, our growth in terms of numbers and level of play has increased dramatically in the past decade. We hope to learn from the experience of others in the SheIs Collective whose sports have grown into successful professional leagues, as we share the same vision for women’s tackle football. We are committed to using our increasing exposure and nationally broadcasted games to bring more fans, sport professionals and corporate support to all of women’s sports."
The WFA has broken many barriers. It was the first women’s football league to play a National Championship in an NFL stadium, as well as the first women’s league to have its games broadcasted on national television. Over 25 veteran WFA players have earned coaching and scouting positions in the NFL including Katie Sowers (San Francisco 49ers), the first female to coach in a Super Bowl; Jennifer King (The Washington Football Team), the first female African American coach in the NFL; and Callie Brownson (Cleveland Browns), the first woman to coach an NFL position group in a regular-season game.
